NAVIGATING THE ADVOCACY HIGHWAY:

BEDSIDE AND BEYOND

COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

Advocacy is the central core of nursing’s professional mission and is evident in every aspect of nursing practice whether it be for colleagues, coworkers and patients. This whole day event will present Advocacy in all these areas- clinical, management, in the community and in clinical situations. It will explore areas where the professional nurse can develop and exercise advocacy. It will likewise recommend strategies of developing these skills.

Behavioral Objectives:

  • Describe current programs in dementia that are geared towards the aging LGBT population
  • Discuss and identify areas where nurses can practice and promote Advocacy
  • List strategies to advocate staff to increase productivity, engagement and morale
  • Discuss personal stories of advocacy based from experiences
  • Explain why political advocacy is important for nurses
